Republic of Ireland versus
Wales 1983
In
!983 the Irish National Darts Organisation instigated Friendly
International Matches against
Wales and for a number of years this annual fixture was one of the
most popular and enjoyable events on the darts calendar.
A
large contingent of Irish supporters travelled across the Irish
Sea to the first match at the Kiln Park Holiday Camp in Tenby and
it turned out to be a weekend to remember.
Connolly
Hall in Cork was the venue in 1984 for the return match and the
festivities continued for the whole weekend at the Metropole
Hotel.
The
Irish teams travelled across to Wales again the following year
where they were entertained in Barry Island and in 1986 the
fixture moved to Mosney Holiday Camp in County Meath where old
friends came together for another great weekend.
Unfortunately, the fixture was dropped from the calendar the
following year leaving us
with
many memories and the hope that it may be revived again some time
in the future.
