The
Youth of Today - - - The Stars of Tomorrow
Are we doing enough to ensure that the
Youth of Today
will be the
Stars of Tomorrow?
Not enough Youth
competitions are being organised around the country and tournament organisers
should be encouraged to stage under-age competitions in conjunction with Senior
events.
This has been
successfully done for many years at the Tramore Festivals while in recent years
the Ireland Players’ Championship and the Killarney Festival have been
instrumental in bringing Youths’ Darts to the fore in this country.
There is a growing
concern that many of our youths are falling by the wayside or moving to other
sports because it is perceived that the gap between Youth and Senior darts is
too wide and that very few of our young players are successfully making the
transition.
It is generally
accepted that to keep the young players interested in staying with the sport
that more open competitions at under-21 level are needed.
This is an invitation
to organisers of Youths’ competitions in all parts of the country to submit
details of their forthcoming events at least month in advance and we will
publicise the event on this page.
And, more
importantly, please submit the results and presentation photos so that we can
give the young players the recognition that they deserve.
Yours in the Sport of
Darts,
Michael O’Sullivan.
