In this section we will be concentrating on the
young darts players in Ireland and hopefully getting their views on the
Sport of Darts throughout the country.
Are we doing enough to ensure that the
Youth of Today will be the Stars of Tomorrow?
There is a growing concern that many of our youths
are falling by the wayside or moving to other sports because it is perceived
that the gap between youth and senior darts is too wide and that very few of
our young players are successfully making the transition.
It is generally accepted that to keep the young
players interested in staying with the sport that more open competitions at
under-21 level are needed.
But who will step in to organise these
events?
The manpower within the INDO and the NIDO seems
very stretched at the moment with the number of events already on the
calendar and they would need to appoint sub-committees of volunteers to
help the situation.
Many of the players` parents and families are very
much involved in under-age events but, as in many other sports, others are
just sitting back and using the willing as baby-sitters!
Geoff Wylie in the North and Tommy Beirne in the
Republic are doing a great job in keeping the show on the road but they need
more help.
