Profile on Sharon Rafter
(Turn on speakers)
“Sharon Rafter - The
Princess of Irish Darts”
On October 13th.,
1996, at the tender age of 30 years Sharon Rafter from Dublin died
peacefully after a long battle against cancer and Ireland lost one of
it’s greatest female darts players.
In the few short years
that she graced the Irish darts scene Sharon represented her county and
her country at the highest level and we can only guess at what
achievements she would have accomplished had she survived the past ten
years.
Sharon’s memory will
live on in her native city and also in Tramore where she was a regular
visitor with her family to the Festival tournaments.
In 2000 the Sharon
Rafter Memorial Cup was added to the programme at the Tramore Winter
Gala and all of the top lady players in the country travel to O’Shea’s
Hotel every January to compete in this event as a tribute to Sharon.
