John O'Shea Wins Ireland Players' Championship

 

 Connie Finnan {Runner-up}, John O'Shea {Champion} and Michael Furlong {Springhill Court Hotel}

 

Another new name was added to the Roll of Honour of the Ireland Players' Championship when John O'Shea {Cork} defeated Limerick's Connie Finnan 6 - 3 in the final at the Springhill Court Hotel in Kilkenny.

 

O'Shea seemed to be in deep trouble when he lost his opening group match to fellow-Corkman, Peter Quinn, but he fought back to win his next two matches to qualify for the last sixteen.

 

Finnan won all of his group matches and went on to defeat Shane O'Connor and Denis McCarthy on his way to the final. O'Shea survived a cliff-hanger in his semi-final against Daryl Gurney and went through on a 6 - 5 scoreline.    John O'Shea then captured the first prize of € 2,000 and the title with a 6 - 3 over Connie Finnan in the final.

 

Denise Retains Ladies' Title

 

 Maeve O'Connor {Runner-up}, Denise Cassidy {Champion} and Michael Furlong {Springhill Court Hotel}


Denise Cassidy from Fermanagh was crowned Ladies' Championship for the second year in a row when she defeated Maeve O'Connor {Carlow} 4 - 1 in the Ladies' decider.

 

The beaten semi-finalists were Linda Harte and Susan McKenna.

 

Ryan Maher is Youths' Champion

Ryan Maher from Dublin caused a major shock in the final of the Youths' Championship when

he defeated the favourite, Paddy Meaney {Kilkenny} by three legs to one.

The beaten semi-finalists were Murty Browne and Dale McCarthy.

 

Anthony McMahon Wins Youths' Plate

 

Anthony McMahon (above) won the Youths' Plate with a 3 - 0 victory over Dean Forde (below) in the final.

Denise Cassidy and Sharon O'Brien

Denise and Sharon Reach Quarter-finals of World Championship

Ireland' two representatives, Denise Cassidy and Sharon O'Brien, reached the last 8 of the PDC Unicorn Women's World Championship in Barnsley on June 12th.

Qualifying competitions were staged at different venues around the world and 32 plaers won through to battle it out for places in the final which will be televised live from Blackpool on July 25th.

Denise and Sharon made hard work of their opening matches against Deana Rosenblom and Clare Bywaters, respectively, before going through on 4 - 3 scorelines but they were far more impressive in Round Two when Denise defeated Lavinia Hogg and Sharon put out Terri Bellamy to win through to the quarter-finals.

 
     

Martin Carvill

Martin Carvill Wins in Meath

 

Martin Carvill from Newry won the Open Singles at Paddy Fay's Bar in Drumcora, Co. Meath, with a 7 - 4 victory over Cavan's Phelim O'Brien in the final.

 

In the semi-finals Martin defeated Owen Caffreyy {Louth} 6 - 3 while Phelim had a 6 - 4 win over Noel Gates {Armagh} in the other semi.

 

 

 

 

 

Adrian O'Neill {Organiser}, Mary Summerville {Winner} and Gary Eastwood {Dunleath Bar} 

£ 575 Raised for Charity

 

Mary Summerville won the Three Counties Ladies' Charity competition in Tyrone when she defeated

Jackie O'Neill in the final at the Dunleath Bar in Omagh.

 

The beaten semi-finalists were Ellen O'Neill and Sheila Hazelette and an amount of £ 575 was raised

on the day for Lilac Cancer Care.

Felix Wins Dunleath Singles

 

 

Felix McBrearty was victorious in the Dunleath Arrows Open Singles in Omagh when he defeated Luke

McBride 5 - 3 in the final at the Dunleath Bar.

 

In the semi-finals Felix defeated Mickey Mansell 4 - 2 and Luke had a 4 - 3 win over Shane Pearson.

 

 

 

All-Ireland Championships

 

Sean McGowan

At the inaugural All-Ireland Darts Championships at the City West Hotel in Dublin Sean McGowan won the Men's Singles when he defeated Daryl Gurney in the final.

 

Denise Cassidy defeated Sharon O'Brien in the Ladies' final and Paddy Meaney recorded a win overJack Moore in the final of the Youths' Singles.

 

In the Men's Team Championship Dublin defeated Limerick in the final while Kildare had a double victory when they won the Ladies' and Youths' Championships.

 

Kevin Burness and Marty Moreland won the Men's Doubles,   Sharon O'Brien and Susan McKenna won the Ladies' Doubles and Ryan Maher and John Seagrave were victorious in the Youths' Doubles.

 

 

 

 

 

Springhill Court Hote

 

All eyes will be on the Springhill Court Hotel in Kilkenny on Sunday, June 27th., for the Grand Finals of the 2010 Ireland Players' Championships.

 

The Top 32 players on the Men's Rankings List will be competing for a first prize of € 2,000 for the Champion and there will also be generous prizes on offer in the Ladies' and Youths' Championships.

 

The Top 8 players on the Ladies' and Youths' lists will be in action in their respective Championships and players rankd from 9th. to 24th. will compete in the Youths' Plate. 

 

The first player on the day to hi a 9-dart check-out will receive the Jackpot prize of € 1,800 and there will be cash prizes on offer for the highest check-outs in all three codes.

 

All qualifiers are reminded that they must check-in at the venue NOT LATER THAN 11.30AM  on Sunday morning otherwise they will not be allowed to compete.

 

Also please note that a STRICT DRESS CODE will apply to all competitors on the day.    Players must wear Collared Shirts - Black Trousers - Black Shoes.

Denise and Sharon Qualify for World Championship

Two of Ireland's most consistent darts players, Denise Cassidy and Sharon O'Brien, qualified to compete in the last 32 of the newly-inaugurated PDC Unicorn Women's World Championshi at the 2010 Irish Women's Matchplay Championship, which was held at the Silver Springs Moran
Hotel in Cork.  Tthey emerged victorious from a high-class entry and they will now represent Ireland in the World event in Barnsley, England, on June 12th.


In the semi-finals of the Matchplay event Sharon defeated Susan McKenna while Denise recorded
a victory over Nicola O'Donovan.     Sharon went on to win the Matchplay title with a 4 - 0 victory over Denise in the final.

Maytime Festival

The Women's Qualifier was held in conjunction with the Maytime Darts Festival which had five other
events on the programme.

On Day Two of the Festival 102 players competed in the Men's Singles competition and Jimmy Murphy from Limerick took the top prize of € 1,200 when he defeated Kilkenny's Denis McCarthy on a 5-4 scoreline in an excellent final.
