Cork had it´s first winner in 1982 when the elegant John Buckley defeated Jack McKenna in the final in the Ashford Tavern, Wicklow, and the ´Rebel County´ retained the title when John Joe O´Shea was triumphant on home soil in Connolly Hall the following year.
John Joe won a second title in 1987 in the Grand Hotel, Malahide.
