JIM MCQUILLAN

The first ´Eire´ Champion was Jim McQuillan from Dundalk in County Louth who went forward to represent his country with distinction at the ´Ally Pally´ in London.

McQuillan cruised through to the semi-finals in London where he came up against the eventual winner, Peter Chapman.   He almost pulled off the shock of the tournament when he took the second leg off his more experienced opponent but he never recovered after throwing two poor early scores in the deciding leg.

Jim McQuillan (Louth), Ireland´s first News of the World Champion.

The 1974 Grand Finals not only established Ireland as a force in World Darts but it was the launch of a great career for Jim McQuillan who went on to represent his country in the World and Europe Cups and Home Internationals.

He was not finished with the News of the World as he came back in 1978 to win the Divisional title again.
