George Byrne R.I.P. (1931-2004)
One
of the great pioneers of darts, George Byrne, died recently
leaving a huge void in both the
Dublin and Irish darts scenes.
George
was a founder member and Chairman of the National Vintners Darts
League in Dublin and he also served as Treasurer of the Dublin
County Board.
He
was Team Manager of the Republic of Ireland team that
competed in the first World Cup competition
in 1977 and he was ever-present at most of the international
events for more than twenty five years.
He
also managed many of the top teams in Dublin, including the
Royal Oak, Kirwin's and the Sarsfield Bar, and up to his
untimely death he was President of the all-conquering Patriot's
Inn team which is managed by his son Alan.
George's
presence will be sadly missed at the darts events around the
country.
Deepest sympathy is extended to
his wife and family on their great loss.
