Kieran Lennon from Waterford City
has been travelling out the Tramore Road for many years to compete in the
numerous Darts Festivals held at O’Shea’s Hotel and he has probably played
in more of these events than any other darts player.
“Lenny’s” ambition was to
win the top prize in one of the Open Singles competitions at the seaside resort
and his perseverance finally paid off on Sunday, April 10th., 2005,
when he defeated Martin Reville (Kildare) in the final of the Men’s Open
Singles at the Tramore Spring Festival.
All of the top players from
around the country were in town for the annual Festival but it was the local
hero, Kieran Lennon, who stole the headlines with a series of brilliant
performances throughout the afternoon.
Kieran was impressive in winning
through on Board (9) to win a place in The quarter-finals against the Louth
captain, Mick McGowan. There was no stopping the Waterford man as he
eliminated McGowan and went on to reach the final with another great win against
the consistent Terry Galvin from Limerick.
In the final Lenny came up
against Martin Reville and despite three maximum scores of 180 by the Kildare
player Kieran held his cool and went on to fashion a 4-3 victory and take the
first prize of € 500.
