Mike Naulty who hails from Dungloe in Co. Donegal was crowned 2009 champion in the annual Bennie Gillespie Individual Darts Cup which was held in Roarty’s and Glenhead Co. Donegal over St. Patrick’s weekend.


Mike defeated 2005 champion Jon Mc Ginley on a 5-3 score-line in a entertaining final which seen avery high standard of darts produced by both players throughout the tournament but it was the Dungloe man who took the honours on this occasion defeating the former champion.......

2006 Benny Gillespie Darts Tournament on Saturday, November 4th.

Donegal County player Declan Cunningham is the 2006 Benny Gillespie champion following a 5-0 victory over Andrew Gillespie in the first local tournament of the season held in Cashel, with some great matches played through out the day, holder of the cup John McGinley was defeated in the first round by John Gallagher (who reached the Semis) on a low note only 32 players entered, let’s hope the rest of the local tournaments are better supported thanks to all who entered.

SW Donegal League Team Win Setanta 5 a side.

 

At the Irish Open Classic last weekend in The TF Hotel, Castlebar, Co. Mayo a 5 a side team representing the Bridge Bar, Carrick won the 5 man team event which was sponsored by Setanta Sports. The team consisted of John McGinley, Tommy Feeney, James Byrne (all SW League), Chuck Lacock (Derry) and Barry Campbell (Dromore, Co. Tyrone) among the teams they defeated on Friday were favourites  Rendezvous Bar, Balla in the semi final with Tommy Feeney winning the deciding match. The final itself was played before the Singles Final on Sunday evening on the main stage in front of the Setanta Sports cameras (the singles final was won by Mick McGowan from Co. Louth he beat world number 10 Kevin Painter 7-0), the opponents in the final were The Believers from Co. Tyrone with the Bridge Bar coming out on top 5-2 winners, highlights from all the final days action will be shown on Setanta in a few weeks time.

High Five for Donegal

 Victorious Donegal team

Donegal completed a remarkable 5-in-row victory in the Irish Inter-Counties Men’s Championship at the West County Hotel in Ennis on February 12th.

24 teams competed in this year’s Championship and after easily qualifying on the Saturday for the last eight they went on to defeat Mayo 7-3, Wexford 7-2 and Limerick 7-4 in the final.

Kenneth Kennedy Wins Con Sean Cup for Second Time

The 2006 Con Sean Cup was won by Kenneth Kennedy from Kildare when he defeated Tommy Feeney from Ardara 4-2 in the final in the Bridge Bar, Carrick.

Kennedy, who won the inaugural running of this competition back in 1999, was the first player to win this prestigious event on two occasions.

The beaten semi-finalists were Declan Cunningham and John Con McGinley and all of the proceeds of the competition were donated to Killybegs Hospice.

John Con Wins Leo Molloy Cup

John Con McGinley from Cashel won the Leo Molloy Cup at the 2006 Leo Molloy Memorial Tournament with an exciting 4-3 victory against Northern Ireland International, Brendan Dolan, in the final in Kilcar.

The beaten semi-finalists were Bob Bramwell and Joe Byrne, both from Sligo.

The Ladies’ competition was won the Republic of Ireland Number One, Angela Deward, while Conor McDaid won the Youths’ competition.
