McDonald Memorial Singles at the Red Lion in Bagenalstown over
the Bank Holiday weekend. He defeated Mick ’Flash’ Dwyer from
Kilkenny in the final.
The Ladies’ Singles was won by Carlow
secretary Maeve O’Connor who defeated Maureen Kelly in the
final.

THE MARTIN FITZGERALD CARLOW
OPEN WAS HELD IN BALLYKEALY HOUSE, BALLON, ON APRIL 16TH. FALLING
ON EASTER SUNDAY, THE COMPETITION DREW SMALLER NUMBERS THAN
USUAL IN THE MENS SECTION, BUT SOME OF THE BEST TRAVELLED FROM
OUTSIDE THE COUNTY AND A HIGH STANDARD OF DARTS WAS ENJOYED BY ALL.
THERE WERE SEVENTEEN ENTRANTS
IN THE LADIES, WITH THE COUNTY TEAM WELL REPRESENTED WITH SEVEN
OUT OF THE NINE PLAYING ON THE DAY.
THERE WAS ALSO A HIGH STANDARD
IN THE YOUTHS SECTION, INCLUDING TWO SETS OF BROTHERS FROM
KILKENNY AND A GRANDSON OF THE GREAT JACK MCKENNA FROM KILDARE.
