Colin
Lloyd ousted Richie Burnett from the Paddy Power World Grand Prix
in Dublin with 2-0 win in the opening round.
Jaws hardly put a foot wrong in the
match and disposed of the former World Champion with some style.
On a night of close matches, this
also had all the ingredients to be a classic as both men traded
early legs.
With the shorter format of the
World Grand Prix, both men knew that they could not afford to fall
too far behind, and that resulted in a 2-2 deadlock in the opening
set.
It was Lloyd who rallied and,
despite being under pressure from Burnett, Jaws snapped up the
fifth leg to go one set ahead.
The Prince of Wales showed what a
fighter he was as he put the disappointment of the first set
behind him to take the opening leg of the second set.
Lloyd immediately levelled and was
determined to force his way in to the second round of the
tournament.
Jaws wrapped up the final two legs
of the set as Burnett capitulated but the manner of the victory
illustrated why Lloyd is many people`s quiet fancy for the
competition.
