Closing Date for Players' Championship

A full set of
rules, conditions and acceptance forms have
been sent to all of the players that have
qualified to compete in the Grand Finals of
the 2008 Bruce Betting Ireland Players'
Championships which will be staged in the
Springhill Court Hotel in Kilkenny on
Sunday, August 10th.
All qualifiers
are reminded that the acceptance forms must
be completed and returned with the
appropriate fees before June 27th.
to Joe Coyne, Kilree, Stoneyford,
Kilkenny. Players who do not
abide by this rule will be eliminated from
the Championships and will be replaced by
the next-ranked player on the Rankings List.
Republic of Ireland Europe Cup Teams

The INDO has
named it's teams to compete in the
forthcoming Europe Cup competitions. The
Republic of Ireland will have Boys' and
Girls' teams in the Europe Youths Cup which
will be held in Swansea from July 16th. to
July 19th.
Boys:
Paddy Meaney {Kilkenny}, David Coyne
{Kilkenny}, Sean McArdle {Dublin} and Ryan
Courtney {Cork}. Team manager - Tom Keogh.
Girls:
Aoife Ryan {Galway} and Jade O'Connor
{Clare}. Team manager - Gemma Keogh.
The Republic of
Ireland will have Men's and Ladies' teams
competing in the Europe Cup which takes
place in Denmark from August 27th. to August
31st.
Men:

{Donegal}; Eddie Cull {Cork} and Steve
McDonnell {Meath}. Team manager - Liam
Kerins. Assistant manager - Ann Griffin.

Irish
Players Contest UK Open
The Blue Square
UK Open kicks off on Thursday, June 5th., at
the Reebok Stadium in Bolton and six Irish
players have qualified to compete in the
event.
Geoff Wylie
will be first into the arena and he will be
followed by John Magowan, Mick McGowan, Owen
Caffrey and Jason Barry who will compete at
the second round stage.
After the
Regional Finals Brendan Dolan finished in
16th. position with £ 3,100 in prize
money and he will enter the Finals in the
third round.

The UK Open
will be televised on Sky Sports from June
5th. to 8th.
Republic Finish Second in Youth Friendship

The Republic of
Ireland Under-21 team finished in second
place to England's Northern Youth in the
annual Youth Friendship Trophy in
Derbyshire.
The Republic
got off to a great start with a 10-5 win
over Northern Ireland but they were quickly
brought back down to earth when they lost
their second match 5-10 to Northern Youth.
They got back
to winning ways again with a 9-6 victory
over Scotland but Northern Ireland' tale of
woe continued as they lost 6-9 to Scotland
and were hammered 0-15 by the eventual
winners.
Ciara O'Meara
(15.42) and
Martin
Heneghan (24.23) had
the top averages for the Republic.

Irish
Matchplay Introduced

THE new
Irish Matchplay Darts Championship
will take place on Sunday 31 August
- with the winner earning a place in
the 2009 Ladbrokes.com PDC World
Darts Championship.
The tournament will be staged at the
Hotel Kilkenny in Kilkenny, and is
open to players who have been
resident in the Republic of Ireland
and Northern Ireland for at least 12
months.
The top eight ranked PDPA members
who enter the event, based on the
PDC Order of Merit on 31 July 2008,
will be seeded for the tournament,
while the top 32 players from the
Ireland Players Championship
rankings will also automatically be
entered.
The winner of the tournament will
receive a place in the Preliminary
Round of the 2009 Ladbrokes.com PDC
World Darts Championship in
December, guaranteeing a further
minimum £2,500 prize money, plus
1,000 euro to cover flights and
hotels for the tournament.
The runner-up will receive 1,000
euro, and the two losing
semi-finalists will receive 500
euro each.
The tournament will be played over
the best of nine legs down to the
quarter-finals, with the semi-finals
the best of 11 legs and the final
the best of 13 legs.
The Irish Matchplay Darts
Championship will begin at midday on
Sunday August 31, with the closing
date for entries being Wednesday
August 13.
Entry costs 30 euro, and entry forms

* In the event that the winner of
the Irish Matchplay is in the top 32
of the PDC Order of Merit and
qualifies through this route, the
runner-up from the Irish Matchplay
would receive the Ladbrokes.com PDC
World Darts Championship place.
However, the winner would still
receive the ?1000 towards flight and
hotel expenses for the tournament.
* PDPA members who compete in the
Irish Matchplay will not be eligible
to enter the Ladbrokes.com PDC World
Darts Championship PDPA Qualifiers
in December.
* Should the winner of the Irish
Matchplay not be a PDPA member, they
would be required to join the PDPA
before competing in the
Ladbrokes.com PDC World Darts
Championship.
* Players entering the Irish
Matchplay must be aged 16 or over on
Friday December 19 2008, when the
Ladbrokes.com PDC World Championship
begins.
* This event will not count towards
any PDC Order of Merit.

Shane
O'Connor (right) won Round Seven of
the 2008 Bruce Betting Ireland
Players' Championship with a 6-3
victory over Jason Barry in the
final at the Coolquay Lodge in
Dublin.
The beaten semi-finalists were
Aodhagan O'Neill and Roy Bailie.
O'Connor finishes the qualifying
competitions as Number One on the
Ireland Rankings List and he will
now be the top seed in the Grand
Finals of the Championship in
Kilkenny next August.
The
Top 32 players on the Rankings List
will be invited to compete in the
finals which will have a prize fund
of
€ 8,000 plus an opportunity of
winning a magnificent Peugeot 207
car for a 9-dart finish.
There was also a very entertaining
youths' competition at the Coolquay
Lodge with 32 players competing on
the day.
The winner was David Concannon
(pictured right) who defeated Paddy
Meaney 3-2 in the final.

Friendship Trophy
Best wishes to the Republic of

Under-21 teams that will be
competing this weekend {May 23-25}
in the annual Youth Friendship
Trophy at The Boundary in Alfreton,
Derbyshire, England.
