Damien O’Driscoll is Irish Champion

The Grand Finals of the 2011 Ireland Players’ Championships were staged for the sixth time on Sunday, June 26th., and Damien O’Driscoll {Cork} became the sixth different winner of the men’s title when he defeated Campbell Jackson {Donegal} in the final.


In the semi-finals O’Driscoll defeated Martin Murphy and Jackson defeated William O’Connor, both on 6 – 5 scorelines.

 

 



Sharon Regains Ladies’ Title

The Ladies’ Championship was won by Sharon O’Brien {Kildare} who defeated Teresa Maher {Laois} 4 – 3 in the final and the beaten semi-finalists in this event were Kay O’Carroll and Denise Cassidy.

John Seagrave defeated Ryan Maher 3 – 1 in an all-Dublin final of the Youths’ Championship.
The beaten semi-finalists were Dean Finn and David McGeer.

David Farrel Wins Plate

David Farrell

In the Youths’ Plate Waterford’s David Farrell recorded a 3 – 1 victory over Kyle Ramsell from
Cork and the losing semi-finalists were Ryan Delaney and Conor Lowry.

Peter Quinn Wins Newbawn Open

One the day before the I.P.C. Finals in Kilkenny many of the finalists stopped off in Wexford to
compete in the Newbawn Darts Open where the first prize was a one-year sponsorship deal to
all of the top darts events around the country.

The Cork players dominated the event with Peter Quinn defeating Damien O’Driscoll in the final
and Kevin McDonnell reaching the semi-finals. The other beaten semi-finalist was Mick ‘Flash’
Dwyer from Wexford.

Cork Darts Players Raise €2,600 for Local Hospice

Over the past season the members and supporters of the Cork Darts Players’ Association organised raffles, collections and a table quiz to raise funds for the local Marymount Hospice who are building a state of the art facility in Cork.


A magnificent sum of € 2,600 was raised for this very worthy cause and a cheque was presented to Doreen Walsh {Friends of Marymount} at the Rock Bar on Monday, June 20th.

Well done to everybody involved !
 

 World Championship Qualifiers

 

 

The Green Isle Hotel in Dublin is the venue at the end of August for two Irish qualifying competitions for PDC World Championships.

 

On Saturday, August 27th., the Irish Under-21 Matchplay Championship will take place at 3.00pm with the winner to qualify for the last 64 in the Unicorn World Youth event.

 

 

 

 

The annual Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay Championship will be held on Sunday, August

28th., and this is a qualifying competition for the PDC Ladbrokes.com World Championship.

 

It will be played down to the last two players on the day with the final being held on stage at the City West Hotel, Dublin, on October 9th.

 

The eventual winner will be invited to compete at Alexandra Palace in London next December.

All-Ireland Championships in Dublin

The Regency Hotel in Dublin was the venue for the second running of the All-Ireland Darts Championships with capacity crowds attending on all three days over the June Bank Holiday Weekend.

 

Pairs events kicked off proceedings on the Friday evening with the Dublin Duo, Ryan Maher and John Seagrave, retaining their Youths’ title.

 

Elma Barry and Nora Dobson won the Ladies’ Pairs while John Elder and Geoff Wylie were victorious in the Men’s event.

 

The Men’s Singles title also went North with Davy McFall emerging victorious while Sharon O’Brien and Dean Finn captured the Ladies’ and Youths’ Singles titles, respectively.

 

The Team Championships were won by Dublin {men}, Carlow {ladies} and Tipperary {youths}.

 

Closing Date for Players’ Championship

 

 

 

The Grand Finals of the 2011 Ireland Players’ Championships will be held at the Springhill Court Hotel in Kilkenny on Sunday, June 26th., and invitations have been sent to the players that have qualified for the four events which will be completed on the day.
