Johnny - Aiming for the Sky !
 |
Nigel Connell
{West Cork Darts League}, Lorraine O'Shea {Maritime Hotel},

O'Shea.

Johnny O'Shea from Bantry will be hoping to follow in his father's
footsteps when he steps up to the oche at the Maritime Hotel in his home
town on Sunday, June 28th., to compete in the Men's Singles Championship
at the inaugural Maritime Darts Festival.
The legendary John Joe O'Shea was Ireland's top darts player for almost
two decades in the 70's and 80's when he won numerous National titles
and represented his country at home and abroad at European and World
events. He also qualified on two occasions to
represent Cork and Ireland in the Grand Finals of the
News of the World Championships in London. Young
Johnny is now hoping that the Maritime Festival will be the launching
pad for him to further his darting career as the winner of the Men's
Singles in Bantry will be invited to compete against the world's top
professionals at the Killarney Darts Festival at the Gleneagle
Hotel next October.
Dad John Joe could be a stumbling block to young Johnny's ambitions as
the 'legend' is still known to be throwing some 'mean darts' in the West
Cork Darts League.
John Joe is relishing the thought of taking on the darting visitors to
his home town. " It's great to see a top-class darts event
like this coming to Bantry" John Joe said, "After many years of
travelling around Ireland competing in darts competitions I am delighted
to be able to welcome other darts players to my home town to participate
in what should be a great darting occasion".
"It will be an opportunity for all the local players to get involved and
hopefully one of them will
go on to qualify to take on the top pros in Killarney".
The Maritime Darts Festival starts on Saturday, June 27th., with an Open
Draw Doubles competition at 8.00pm and it will continue on Sunday, June
28th., with Men's, Ladies' and Youths' Singles competitions at 12 noon.
Full details and entry forms are available from Michael O'Sullivan
{087-2648291} or from any committee member of the West Cork Darts
League.
They are also available at the reception desk at the Maritime Hotel or
they may be downloaded from this website.
