Sean
Street R.I.P.
The darts fraternity in Cork has been shocked and saddened by the death
of Sean Street on Sunday, July 19th., 2009.
Sean had been involved in the Cork darts scene for more than thirty
years, firstly, on the committee of the old Cork Beamish Darts League
and then as a founder member of the Cork Darts Organisation.
He served in many positions on the C.D.O. committee in addition to the
Cork County Board.
Sean was instrumental in bringing many of the world's top professionals
on tour around Ireland and he was a familiar face in the pubs and clubs
around the country. We extend our deepest sympathy to his
family.

O'Connor Turns on
the Style at Maritime Festival
 |
Simon Tiptaft
{General Manager, Maritime Hotel} congratulating William O'Connor after
his victory in the Men's Singles. |
The inaugural Maritime Darts Festival at the
Maritime Hotel in Bantry, West Cork, was an outstanding success with large crowds attending on both
days of the event.
The Festival commenced on Saturday evening
with 70 players competing in an Open Draw Doubles competition and victory went to West Cork
Chairman, Nigel Connell, who teamed up with Darran O'Shea from Limerick to defeat the Kerry pairing of
Phil Standing and Kevin McCann in the final.
103 players competed in the Men's Singles
event on Sunday and the large attendance witnessed some superb matches throughout the afternoon.
When the quarter-final stage was reached the
local fans had plenty to cheer about with Nigel Connell and Eugene Murnane still very much involved
while the Kilkenny supremo, Joe Coyne, was back to some of his best form in winning through from
Board {1}.
"Geno" ! " Geno" ! was the chant as Murnane
moved into the semis with a win over Coyne but Connell's competition came to an end when he lost to
Limerick's Jimmy Murphy.
William O'Connor defeated Ian Dobson in
their quarter-final match while John O'Shea had a very close 4-3 win over his Cork team-mate Damian
O'Driscoll.
Murnane's journey came to an end when he
lost 3-5 to O'Shea in the semi-finals while O'Connor won the other semi 5-1 against Murphy.
There was no stopping William O'Connor in
the final as he fashioned a 5-0 victory over the luckless John O'Shea. O'Connor also captured the prize for the
