Great Start to 5th. Players' Championship

 

Round One of the 2010 Ireland Players' Championship was held on Sunday, November 1st.,at the Springhill Court Hotel in Kilkenny with 211 players competing in the three events.

150 players entered for the Men's event and the list included many new faces from all corners of the country.

 

Shane O'Connor was back to his best form on the day as he captured the first prize of € 1,200 with a 6-4 victory over the 2008 Champions, Daryl Gurney.    In the semi-finals Shane defeated Craig Sproat 6-2 while Daryl had a 6-4 win over John O'Shea.
 
In the Ladies' event the reigning, Denise Cassidy, showed no mercy as she captured the first prize with a 4-0 win over Theresa Maher in the final.

Denise defeated the 2009 runner-up, Caroline Breen, 3-0 in the semis while Theresa had a 3-1 win over Kay O'Carroll.

Paddy Meaney won the Youths' competition with a 3-0 victory over Ashley Walsh in the final.    In the semis Paddy had a similar victory over Dean Forde while Ashley defeated John Seagrave by three legs to one.
Shane O'Connor rounded off a great afternoon by hitting the Highest Check-out of 164.
 
 
9-Dart Jackpot
The roll-over Jackpot for a 9-Dart Check-out was not won again and this will be increased to € 1,400 in Round Two on Saturday, November 21st., at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel
 

Connie Wins Sky Bet Round Robin

 Forty of the top throwers in the country competed in the annual Sky Bet Round Robin Singles at Shirley's Pub, Kells, Co. Kilkenny, on Saturday, October 31st.

 

The winner was Connie Finnan from Limerick who took the first prize of € 800 with a 6-4 victory over Paddy Meaney {Kilkenny} in the final.


In the semis Connie defeated Michael Blair {Down} 6-2 while Paddy had a 6-4 win over David

Coyne, also from Kilkenny.     The runner-up received € 400 and the beaten semi-finalists won € 200 each.
