Batman and Robin Favourites in Monaghan

'Batman and Robin' have been installed as even-money favourites to win the Fancy Dress competition at the Glencarn Classic in Castleblaney at the end of the month.

While most of the other bookies have stopped taking bets on the outcome, Bruce Betting, who are the new sponsors of the 2008 Ireland Players’ Championship, are still offering darts players a chance of doubling their money if the ‘Dynamic Duo’ capture the first prize of €250.   Ladbrokes must have some inside information as they have posted 'Dumb and Dumber' at 5/4 second favourites while Sky Bet are taking no chances and are offering 1/2 odds-on that the Batmobile will not be allowed onto the grounds of the Glencarn Hotel.

Sean McArdle from Dublin became the first winner of the John McEvoy Bronze Dart Youths’ Singles Championship at the Killarney Darts Festival when he defeated Shane Nolan from Kerry in the final.  What a final it turned out to be !

Neither of the two players were in awe of the massive audience and the huge setting in the arena of Ireland’s National Events Centre at the Gleneagle Hotel as they took to the stage ahead of the final stages of the main event the John McEvoy Gold Dart Classic.

Shane Nolan was quickly into his stride as he hit a maximum 180 and checked out from 138 to go two legs up but Sean McArdle kept his cool as he struck back to take the next three legs and the title.

48 players entered the youths’ event and they provided excellent entertainment for the large crowd of proud parents and interested spectators.

In the semi-finals Shane Nolan defeated Paddy Meaney {Kilkenny}, a recent medallist at the World Cup in the Netherlands while Sean McArdle accounted for Ryan Courtney {Cork}, winner of Round One of the Ireland Youths’ Championship in Kilkenny.

MARK WALSH defeated Vincent van der Voort 6-5 in the final of Saturday's non-ranked Gleneagle Irish Masters at the INEC in Killarney.
