All Set for Grand Finals

 

Joan Flynn - Ranked No.1 on the Ladies' Rankings
 

The stage is now set and the draws have been made for the Grand Finals of the 2008 Bruce Betting Ireland Players' Championships which take place on Sunday, August 10th., at the Springhill Court Hotel in Kilkenny.

 

The thirty two qualifiers in the Men's Championship have been divided into eight groups with the top eight players on the Rankings List being seeded into these groups.

 

Matches will be played on a round robin basis with the top two players in each group progressing to the quarter-finals.

 

The top eight players in the Ladies' Championship have been divided into two groups of four and the top two from each group will contest the semi-finals.

 

Eight players will compete in both the Youths' Championship and the Youths' Plate and these events will be played on a straight knock-out basis.

 

Men's Championship:

Group {1}: Shane O'Connor ; Brian Cathcart ; Mervyn Robinson ; Kevin Hanly.

Group {2}: Sean Marshall ; Daryl Gurney ; Ben Corcoran ; Andrew Dempsey.

Group {3}: Martin Murphy ; John O'Shea ; Brian Doheny ; Simon Wykes.

Group {4}: Roy Bailie ; Ali Powell ; John Elder ; Eugene McArdle.

Group {5}: Damian O'Driscoll ; Michael Blair ; Jack McKenna ; William O'Connor.

Group {6}: Denis McCarthy ; Garrett Gray ; Aodhagan O'Neill ; Jamie Shearer.

Group {7}: Johnny Donovan ; John Ward ; Noel Redmond ; Paul Irving.

Group {8}: Benny Grace ; Patrick Keane ; Connie Finnan ; Jason Cullen.

 

Ladies' Championship:

Irish Teams in Europe Youth Cup

Both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will be sending teams to Swansea in Wales

this week to compete in the 2008 Europe Youth Cup.

 

The two countries will be represented in the Boys' event but only the Republic will have a team

in the Girls' competition.

 

Sixteen countries will be competing in the Boys' Team event and Northern Ireland have been

drawn in the same group as the Czech Republic, Germany and Scotland while the Republic

will have to face Denmark, Netherlands and Gibraltar in their Group.

 

The two Irish Boys' teams and the Republic's Girls' team will also be competing in Pairs and

Singles competitions

Teams from 16 countries will contest the 2008 Europe Cup Youth 
The event, which is being held at the University of Swansea in South Wales, consists of two separate events. The Girls will play Round Robin Singles and Pairs with the best players advancing to the "KO" finals. The Boys will play "KO" Singles and Pairs and a Round Robin Team event. We shall be providing updates as the events progress.

McEvoy Memorial in Tullamore

The annual Rory McEvoy Memorial Singles Tournament will take in the National Forresters Club in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, on Sunday, July 27th., starting at 2.00pm.
