Hat-trick for Willie

William O’Connor

Limerick’s William O'Connor created a new record in Irish Darts when he captured the O'Shea Cup for the third year in succession at the Winter Gala at O'Shea's Hotel in Tramore, County Waterford, on Sunday, January 16th.

The O'Shea Cup is one of the most prestigious and sought-after titles in Ireland and it has always been considered as one of the hardest competitions to win over the past eighteen years.

The legendary Jack McKenna won the first event in 1994 and has been victorious four times overall.

Other famous names such as John Joe O'Shea, Mick McGowan, John Elder and the late Tom Kirby appear on the Roll of Honour.

William O'Connor was in brilliant form last weekend in capturing his third title in a row.   He defeated his fellow PDPA member Aodhagan O'Neill 5 - 2 in the quarter finals before beating his Limerick colleague Ian Dobson by six legs to two in the final.

In the semi-finals William defeated Keith Geraghty 5 – 2 in the semi-finals while Ian had a 5 – 4 win over Campbell Jackson to reach the final.

Tramore Specialist – Tom O’Connor

Tom O’Connor {Wexford} is known as one of the hardest players to beat in Tramore as he regularly appears on the winner’s rostrum at the festival events at the seaside venue.

The Tramore Winter Gala was no exception as he won the 301 Singles title on Day One of the weekend with a 4 – 2 win over Connie Finnan {Limerick} in the final.

In the semi-finals Tom defeated young John Seagrave from Dublin 4 – 2 while Connie had a 4 – 1 victory over Aodhagan O’Neill {Cavan}.
