Naulty Wins Pat Rawdon Tournament

Mike Naulty won the 2011 Pat Rawdon Tournament which was held in the Cope House, Killybegs, Co. Donegal, on Saturday 19th February.       He defeated Anthony Gallagher who was appearing in his first local final 6-3 in one of the best finals seen in the area with Mike hitting four 180’s and Anthony hitting one maximum.

 

All matches in the tournament were played at a very high standard.   James Byrne and 2010 winner Declan Cunningham were the beaten semi finalists.   Anthony had the highest checkout of the day in the quarter final of 160 while Gerry McBrearty had a 149 finish on the same board.

Double Delight for Denise.

 

Northern Ireland International, Denise Cassidy, made the long trip from Fermanagh to Cork for the Leeside Darts Festival at the end of February and she recorded a double victory with wins in Round Three of the Ireland Ladies’ Championship on Saturday and the Ladies’ Open Singles on Sunday.

 

Ian Dobson and Darrell Hodgson won the Men’s Doubles at the Festival while Sharon Buckley and

Aisling  Feiriteur were victorious in the Ladies’ Doubles.

 

The Men’s Open Singles was won by Denis McCarthy {Kilkenny} who defeated John Nyhan {Cork}

 

In the final and the Youths’ title went to Stephen Lennon with a victory over Steven Mooney.

 

 

Great Weekend for Irish Players on Pro Tour

 

There was a number of notable performances by Irish players at the PDC Players’ Championship events at the Moorway Centre in Derby last weekend.

 

On the Saturday Aoghan O'Neill picked up £ 400 by reaching the third round after defeating Roland Scholten 6 – 5 in Round Two.

 

Michael Mansell and Brendan Dolan were in superb form on Sunday with many top scalps under their belts.

 

Andy Jenkins {6-1}, Dennis Smith {6-3} and Simon Whitlock {6-1} were Mansell’s victims before he lost out to Mervyn King in Round Four}.

 

Brendan Dolan went one step further and picked up £ 1,000 for reaching the quarter-finals.      In Round One Dolan defeated Gary Anderson by 6 legs to 5 before recording victories over John Magowan {6-3}, Steve Brown {6-4} and Dennis Priestley {6-3} before losing to Mark Walsh in the last eight.

Leeside Darts Festival

 

The next major event on the Irish Darts Calendar will be the Leeside Darts Festival at the Silver Springs Moran Hotel in Cork on the weekend of February 26th/ 27th and it will incorporate Round Three of the 2011 Ireland Players’ Championship on the Saturday.

 

Entries for the Men’s Championship will close on February 23rd while entries for the Ladies’ and Youths’ Championships will be accepted at the venue on the day.

 

There will be separate Men’s and Ladies’ Doubles competitions on the Saturday night and the Festival will conclude on Sunday with Open Singles competitions for Men, Ladies and Youths’ Under-18.

 

Nine Titles Each for Donegal and Dublin

 

Congratulations to Donegal and Dublin on winning the Irish Inter-Counties Championships in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.    Both counties were winning the Championships for the ninth time with Donegal defeating Wexford by seven legs to six in the men’s final and Dublin defeating Kilkenny by four legs to one in the ladies’ decider.
