Qualifiers for Killarney Festival

There was a capacity attendance at the Rock Bar on Gillabbey Street on Monday, September 14th., for the CDPA qualifying competition for the 2009 Killarney Darts Festival.      The event was organised by the Cork Darts Players' Association for it's members and with six places at stake for the event in the Gleneagle Hotel the 48 players that competed on the night treated the spectators to a feast of darts.


Alan Ramsell and Anthony Boyle won through to the Killarney Festival for the second successive year when they defeated Dave Kelleher {3-1} and Mick Hennessy {3-2} in their respective group finals.


All of the matches were very closely fought on the night with four of the six deciders going the full distance.  Ricky O'Regan defeated Mick Maguire, Tony Manning defeated Tony McGregor and John Kidney defeated Noel McCarthy all on 3-2 scorelines while former Cork County Youth player, Gary Condron, defeated Maurice O'Donovan 3-1 in his first CDPA competition.


The six qualifiers will now compete against the world's top darts players in the Gleneagle Irish Masters and the John McEvoy Gold Dart Classic Pro Tour at the Killarney Festival on the weekend of October 16th. to 18th.


CDPA Autumn Doubles Championship

40 pairs competed in the annual CDPA Autumn Doubles Championship at Ardmanning House on Monday, September 21st., and victory went to Maurice O'Donovan and Eric Dunlea from the Horse Shoe Inn who defeated Timmy Ryan and Jack Quinn from the Rock Bar in the final.

 

 

Major Sponsorship Deal for CDPA.

The Cork Darts Players' Association has secured a major sponsorship deal with Maher Sports and Unicorn for the forthcoming Cork City and District Darts League which commenced on Monday night, September 28th.


Details of the sponsorship were announced on at Ardmanning House in Togher by Brendon Dolan {representing Maher Sports} and Dave McCarthy {representing Unicorn}.      CDPA Chairman, Michael O'Sullivan, expressed sincere gratitude to the new sponsors for their very generous commitment to Cork Darts and he urged all of the Association's members to support the sponsors.


Maher Sports presented all of the CDPA members with Loyalty Cards which can be used to purchase sports goods at discounted prices in the Maher Sports Shops around Cork City and Unicorn Products presented top of the range Eclipse Pro dartboards for all CDPA competitions.


The Cork City and District League has now been re-named the Maher Sports/ Unicorn Darts League and it has 24 teams competing in three divisions.

 

 

John O'Shea Wins in Tramore

Congratulations to John O'Shea from Cork City who won the Men's Singles competition at the 22nd. Tramore Autumn Darts Festival at O'Shea's Hotel.        O'Shea defeated Willie O'Connor from Limerick on a 5-2 scoreline in the final.  

 

Cork players dominated this competition with Peter Quinn reaching the quarter-finals and Damian O'Driscoll, John Paul Dowdall, Declan O'Sullivan and Pakie Donovan collecting prize money for the last sixteen.

Liz Shanahan from East Cork was the best of the Cork players in the Ladies' Singles in Tramore.   She reached the final where she lost out to Kildare's Sharon O'Brien.  

 

Kay O'Carroll was beaten in the quarter-finals of this competition.
