Cork Players Perform
in Killarney
Almost 80 Cork darts players travelled
to the Gleneagle Hotel for the annual Killarney Darts Festival on
the weekend of October 16th. to 18th. and they figured well in the
prize money in all competitions.
The main event at the Festival was the
John McEvoy Gold Dart Classic which featured most of the top-ranked
players on the PDC circuit and the Irish players competed in a
special qualifying competition on the Friday night for a chance to
take on the pros.
Cork players, Gary Bollard {Belgooly},
Eugene Murnane {Bantry}, Ian McCarthy {City} and Danny Ward
{Charleville} all won through to the Pro Tour event.
The Gleneagle Irish Masters attracted
an entry of 333 players on the Saturday and once again Cork players
made their presence felt.

Darren O'Hea, Damien O'Driscoll, Ian
Dobson, Jason Kavanagh, Peter Quinn, Joe Colins and John Kidney all
picked up cheques.
The Masters was won by Phil Taylor who
defeated Wayne Jones 6-1 in the final.
Moving on to the John McEvoy Gold Dart
Classic and some more great performances from the Cork players.

Anthony Boyle caused a big upset when
he defeated Dublin's Jacko Barry while Damien O'Driscoll knocked out
another PDC player, Joe Cullen, before losing to Wes Newton on a 4-6
scoreline.
Mark Willis, Joe Collins and Pakie
Donovan all picked up cheques for Stg £200 in this event. For
the record, Phil Taylor also won this event when he defeated Paul
Nicholson in the final.
Dean Forde from the City was in
excellent form in the Bronze Dart Youths' Trophy where he reached
the final before bowing out to the reigning champion, Paddy Meaney
{Kilkenny}.
Kay O'Carroll was the best of the Cork
players in the Silver Dart Ladies' Singles where she reached the
semi-finals before losing to Rebecca Rose from England.
Denise Cassidy from Fermanagh retained
her title in this event.

Prior
to his trip to the Killarney Darts Festival Phil "The Power" Taylor
stopped off in Cork City where he spent two hours in Mahers' Sports
Shop on Maylor Street.
Hundreds of fans turned up on the day
to greet their hero who played against some of the locals and who
signed autographs for the duration of his fleet visit.
