Joe Collins from the Millwheel Bar has dominated proceedings during the month of
October with some brilliant displays at home and away.
He became the first player to win the Tom O’Sullivan Memorial Shield on three
occasions when he defeated his team-mate John Kidney 4-2 in the final at
Ardmanning House on October 21st. before heading up to the City West Hotel in
Dublin for the Irish Regional Final of the UK Open and the Sky Bet World Grand
Prix.
In his first match of the UK Open he played Bob Anderson and Joe threw the best
darts of his career to defeat the Limestone Cowboy by 5 legs to 2. He went on to
defeat another Grand Prix qualifier, Keith Rooney, 5-3 in the next round before
losing 2-5 to Chris Mason in his board final (last 32).
On Day Two of the World Grand Prix Joe came up
against the 12-times World Champion, Phil Taylor, and he put on a great show
before eventually losing by two sets to nil.
Nicola O’Donovan from the city also had a very
busy time during the month after returning from Australia where she represented
her country in the World Cup.
She travelled up to Sligo for the John Kennedy
Memorial Tournament and she reached the final of the Ladies’ Singles where she
lost to Angela Deward from Donegal.
Bridlington was her next stop for the World
Masters and once again she was in top form reaching the last sixteen of the
Ladies’ Singles where she lost to World Number Two, Francesca Hoensellar from
the Netherlands.
Eddie Cull and Darren O’Hea were also in action in
the World Masters in Bridlington.
Kay O’Carroll won the Ladies’ Singles at the Tom
O’Sullivan Memorial Tournament with a 3-2 win against Sharon Buckley in the
final.
