Damo Brings Title Back to Cork

 

Damien O’Driscoll was crowned Irish Darts Champion when he defeated Campbell Jackson from Northern Ireland 6 – 3 in the final of the 2011 Ireland Players’ Championship at the Springhill Court Hotel in Kilkenny on Sunday, June 26th.

 

After six rounds of the Championship the Top 32 players in the Men’s Championship battled it out on the day with Cork’s John O’Shea hoping to retain the title won last year.

 

After the initial Round Robin stage on the day four Cork players, Damien O’Driscoll, John O’Shea, Kevin McDonnell and Peter Quinn, won through to the knock-out stage.

 

There was no stopping Damien O’Driscoll from this stage onwards as he marched to the title with some superb throwing.

 

Kay O’Carroll (left) was the best of the Cork players in the Ladies’ Championship and she was unlucky to lose out to the eventual winner, Sharon O’Brien {Kildare} in the semi-finals.

 

There was another great performance from a Cork player in the Youths’ Plate with Kyle Ramsell finishing runner-up to David Farrell {Waterford}. Kyle also recorded the highest check-out of 117.

 

Best of luck to Kyle who will be competing with the Republic of Ireland team in the Europe Youth Cup in Aberdeen from July 7th. to 10th.

 

Peter Quinn Wins in Wexford

En route to the finals in Kilkenny many of the Cork players stopped off in Wexford to compete in the Newbawn Darts Open where the first prize was a one-year sponsorship deal to all of the top darts events around the country.

 

The Cork players dominated the event with Peter Quinn defeating Damien O’Driscoll in the final and Kevin McDonnell reaching the semi-finals.

 

End of Season Presentations:

 

Presentation of cheque to Marymount Hospice

 

 

The Cork Darts Players’ Association completed it’s 2010/11 season with presentations at the Rock Bar, Gillabbey Street, on Monday, June 20th.

 

Over the past season the CDPA organised raffles, collections and a table quiz to raise funds for Marymount Hospice who are building a new facility in Cork.

 

A magnificent sum of € 2,600  was raised for this very worthy and a cheque for that amount was presented to the Friends of Marymount on the night.

 

Mahers Sports 180 Club

Eric Dunlea from the Evergreen Bar was crowned ‘Mister Maximum’ on the night after hitting fifteen 180’s during the season to finish on top of the Leader Board in the inaugural Mahers Sports 180 Club.

The 180 Club was a very popular addition to the CDPA Calendar with 154 with 154 maximums

being recorded throughout the season.
