Cork
Players in Ireland Championships.
With one round to go in the 2010 Ireland
Players' Championship Cork players are still
performing well and the Rebel County will be
well-represented in the Grand Finals at the
end of June.
On March 28th. at the Green Isle Hotel in
Dublin Craig Sproat was the best of the Cork
players in the Men's Championship with some
notable scalps in reaching the semi-finals
and guaranteeing his place on finals day.
Craig eliminated the Irish Matchplay
Champion, Aodhagan O'Neill, and the Northern
Ireland No.1, Daryl Gurney, before losing
out to the eventual winner, P.J. Moylan, by
6 legs to 4 in the semis.
Peter Quinn was also in top form in
defeating the top-ranked player, Shane
O'Connor, and he is now in the Top 32
and in a good position to qualify for the
finals. John O'Shea,
Kevin McDonnell and John Paul Dowdall are
also in the Top 32 with five other Cork
players, Eddie Cull, Damien O'Driscoll,
Jason Kavanagh, Johnny Donovan and Declan
O'Sullivan, all still in with a chance of
qualifying if they produce the goods in the
final round on April 25th. Kay
O'Carroll is still holding on to her Top 8
position on the Ladies' Rankings but she
will need to up her performance to make it
to the finals. Ashling Feiriteur is not far
behind and could still make the cut.
Ashley Walsh is at No. 6 on the Youths'
Rankings but Dean Forde has slipped down the
list after losing in the first round in
Dublin. He will need to spend some time on
the practise
board to make up lost ground otherwise he
will be playing in the Youths' Plate with
possibly
Kyle Ramsell and Paul Donovan.
