Cork Players Shine in April
April was a great month for Cork darts players as they proved
once again that they are more than a match for the other players
around the country

At the Tramore Spring Festival at O'Shea's Hotel the Cork
ladies' team {sponsored by Gabriel House} won the Inter-Counties
Challenge competition for the fourth time with an impressive
victory over Wexford in the final while in the Ladies' Singles
on
the same weekend Kay O'Carroll defeated Nicola O'Donovan in an
all-Cork final.
Ryan Courtney finished runner-up in the Under-18 Singles while
John O'Shea and Johnny Donovan were beaten in the
semi-finals of the Men's Singles.

The next big event was the Bettystown double-header with Round
Six of the Bruce Betting Ireland Players' Championship
and the Tommy Dunn Memorial Tournament.
Damian O'Driscoll (right) was once again the Cork standard-bearer when
he defeated the Northern Ireland Number 0ne, Daryl
Gurney, 6-1 in the final and he is now only two points behind
Shane O'Connor on the Ireland Rankings List with just one
round of the Championship remaining.
Ryan Courtney (left) was beaten in the final of the Youths'
Championship but he went one step further on the
second day when
he won the Youths' Singles in the Tommy Dunn Tournament.
Johnny Donovan - A Legend in East Cork
Ten times winner of the East Cork Individual Darts Championship
- that is the proud record of Johnny Donovan (right) who plays for
McGrath's Bar in Ballycotton.
Johnny wrote his name into Cork Darts folklore when he chalked
up his 10th. title at the Two Mile inn in Midleton.
His aim now is to make a big impression in the Grand Finals of
the Bruce Betting Ireland Players' Championship next August.

102 players competed in the annual CDPA Beamish 'Golden Arrows'
Singles Championships at Ardmanning House on Monday,April 28th., and with a prize fund of € 1,300 at stake there was
some great action on the night.
Pakie O'Donovan {Millwheel} won Grade {1} for the first time
when he defeated former winner John Kidney {Huntsman} in the
final.
The beaten semi-finalists were Joe Collins and John Kiely.
Anthony Boyle from the Harp Bar defeated Des McKinney {Ferry
Arms} in the final of Grade {2} while Noel Hegarty won Grade {3}
when he defeated his Harp team-mate Hugh Elliott.
