Darts Aid Charity    -   ARCHIVES

Darts Aid Charity was founded in 1996 by a group of Cork Darts Players to raise funds for local charities.

When the Cork Darts Players’ Association was formed in 1997 the members and supporters of the CDPA gave their support to the charity and by the end of 2002 they had donated more than €136,000  to worthy causes in the Cork area.

One of their biggest ventures was raising €11,000 to send a group of sick children to EuroDisney.

The clubs organised various events, including marathons, raffles, headshaves competitions etc. and John Part and Mick Manning put on a great show at the Ardmanning for the charity.

Their main fund-raising in 2003 will be in aid of the local Hospice at Marymount and many events have been planned over the coming months.

Two Cork Leagues combined their efforts recently to raise funds for Marymount Hospice

The Cobh League and the Cork City and District League competed in an Inter-League challenge match in Cobh Ramblers’ Club House down in the ‘Holy Ground’ and all of the players were sponsored by friends and local businesses on the night.   The match was very closely contested with the city team just winning on a 16-14 scoreline.

There was also a clash of the two league singles champions on the night with the local hero, Dave Donachie, outplaying the city champion, Peter Quinn.

The real winner on the night, however, was Marymount Hospice who received a cheque for €9,200 thanks to the generosity of the players and supporters.

The Friends of Marymount Hospice were so impressed that they donated a Perpetual Trophy to both Leagues to be played for on an annual basis.

Plans are already been made for the 2006 challenge which will be held at a city venue in the New Year.

In conjunction with Darts Aid Charity`s venture in aid of Marymount Hospice, the members and supporters of the Henry Grattan Darts Club organised a very enjoyable fund-raising evening at their club`s premises in Grattan Street, Cork City.

Alan O`Leary, Eoin Mulhare, Barry O`Regan and Eoin Grace were the `Stars of the Show` as they performed their version of the `Full Monty` to an enthusiastic capacity audience.

The stage show was followed by a raffle and a disco and a grand total of €2,000 was raised for the charity on the night.
