Two Cork Leagues combined their efforts recently to raise funds
for Marymount Hospice |
The Cobh League and the Cork City and District League competed in an
Inter-League challenge match in Cobh Ramblers’ Club House down in the ‘Holy
Ground’ and all of the players were sponsored by friends and local
businesses on the night. The match was very closely contested
with the city team just winning on a 16-14 scoreline.
There was also a
clash of the two league singles champions on the night with the local hero,
Dave Donachie, outplaying the city champion, Peter Quinn.
The real winner on
the night, however, was Marymount Hospice who received a cheque for €9,200
thanks to the generosity of the players and supporters.
The Friends of
Marymount Hospice were so impressed that they donated a Perpetual Trophy to
both Leagues to be played for on an annual basis.
Plans are already
been made for the 2006 challenge which will be held at a city venue in the
New Year.
